In the unique natural paradise at the edge of the Hohe Tauern National Park, athletes, active holidaymakers, families and those looking for rest and relaxation will find varied worlds of experiences year-round. This includes the crystal-clear Lake Zell, the local Schmittenhöhe mountain and the Kitzsteinhorn mountain with its attractions at 3000 metres above sea level.
Hiking and mountaineering in the Pinzgau Alps
Nearly 400 kilometres of hiking trails stretch over all altitudes – from the glacier to Lake Zell. Depending on your sporting ambition, you can reach the peaks on foot or with the gondola. Pleasure hikers are swept in comfort in exclusive Porsche Design gondolas from the valley to the 2,000 metre high Schmittenhöhe mountain. The local mountain of Zell am See is a type of “viewing platform” in the region of Salzburg. 360-degree panoramic view of thirty 3000 metre peaks!

Mountain biking for beginners and pros
Whether sporty with the mountain bike or leisurely with the family around Lake Zell: On the extensive 240 km cycling paths in the region and the total of 1300 kilometres in the region of Salzburg, everyone will find their favourite trail. For downhillers and freeriders there are 12 lines nearby in one of the largest bike parks in Europe. Take it easier with an e-bike up the mountain and down the valley. With 25 rental stations, the Zell am See-Kaprun region is one of the trend setters and largest e-bike regions in Austria.
Water sports
The crystal-clear tides of Lake Zell are perfect for swimming, water skiing, sailing, and surfing with a view of the imposing mountains. The more adventurous can get out with a guide on the Salzach and Saalach rivers for rafting or canyoning which will really make your heart race. And in the winter, there are the Tauern SPA Kaprun and the indoor pool in Zell as leisure options for swimming enthusiasts.
Flying in the Alps
If you want to see our beautiful Pinzgau region from above, you can take to the air in addition to hiking in the mountains. Whether a tour in an airplane or (tandem) paragliding or hang-gliding, everything is possible in the Zell am See-Kaprun region.
Or “fly” with the Flying Fox on a cable with up to 130 km/h on a stretch from 1600 m to the valley. An unforgettable experience at an altitude of 140 m.
Golfing in the Alps
The golf course in the Zell am See-Kaprun region and other golf courses in the area are perfect for enjoying nature in the Pinzgau region. The most beautiful 36 Greens in the Alps are found in the Zell am See-Kaprun region. The location of the golf club, one of the “Leading Golf Courses Austria” is unique in Europe. The top-manicured and park-like 18 hols championship courses are located in the foothills of the mountains with a view of the Schmittenhöhe and Kitzsteinhorn mountains. The course was named golf club of the year in 2011 by the “Golfrevue” magazine.
